Terry Nunley, songwriter and owner of Fleetwood Records, contacted me in December 1991 about the possibility of Ripsaw licensing several songs he had written and that he then had Roy Kyle & Nite Life record for release on Fleetwood. Although I liked most of the songs, I was not in a position to release any Ripsaw material at that time. But Nunley and I agreed to stay in touch and try to work together in the future. After Andy Widder of Germany’s Part Records approached, I saw that opportunity and three of those tracks appear on the series – one each on Volume 2, Volume 3, and Volume 4.
Roy Kyle, based in western Kentucky, has been playing rockabilly, country, and roots rock ‘n’ roll for decades with his Nite Life band (heard on the Ripsaw tracks) and currently with his Hot Rod Cruisers. Kyle is a heck of a singer and guitar player specializing in hot ‘50’s rockabilly licks. He and his Cruisers play regularly not only in Kentucky, but also head north to Indiana and Illinois, south to Tennessee, and west to Missouri.
